Thank you for visiting our website in interest of our invite for you to join WSNC-FM’s SAVE JAZZ effort. Over the last 10-15 years, Jazz radio stations in major markets have been disappearing off of the radio dial. ‘Support’ for these stations usually is the reason given, however throughout this country and the world, whenever Jazz lovers know there’s an opportunity to enjoy Live Jazz, the ‘support’ is near capacity or sold out. Just check out the number of Jazz Festivals and Cruises on the landscape.
90.5 WSNC-FM has always been an advocate of Jazz historically. During those 10-15 years, the station focused its presentation on ‘Straight Ahead’ jazz. In 2018, the presentation was adjusted to be more inclusive of all Jazz……Straight Ahead, Big Band, Fusion, Contemporary, Latin and Smooth…….we fondly refer to it affectionately as Gumbo Jazz……we just put it in our Jazz Pot and let it cook. Because of that adjustment, what you’ve hopefully come to enjoy with our radio station has resulted in continuous growth over the last few years and we’re confident we offer a one-of-a-kind brand of great music, the heritage artform of Jazz. We want to show that Jazz belongs on the radio and need your help in doing so if you’re a fan of what we offer or just a fan of Jazz. Why?
90.5 WSNC-FM is a Public Radio station in Winston-Salem and an affiliate of National Public Radio (NPR). Unlike commercial radio, public radio’s SURVIVAL depends on Listener Support, grant support and support from businesses and corporations through Underwriter Sponsorships. SAVE JAZZ is our appeal to local Jazz lovers in the Triad, in particular Forsyth County to help 90.5 WSNC-FM maintain our programming of this tremendous artform which makes up 80% of our daily programming.
Consider this…….the current Neilsen rating of the Triad indicates WSNC-FM continues to grow in excess of 30,000 – 50,000 listeners over the last 3 years. If each listener is as passionate about Jazz as we are about maintaining it for access on the radio and through our digital and device platforms, we can continue to solidify the existence of Jazz on the radio in the Triad. Our goal……if each listener committed to contribute a minimum of $10.00 per month, it would secure our ability to operate annually. We also understand when people contribute they want to be assured their funds are being utilized for the purposes of the station’s operation. Being a public radio station, 90.5 WSNC-FM’s financial stewardship transparency is a top priority and supported with an independent annual audit. Also, being public radio, we are required to have our files open to the public.
