Transmitter

WSNC is now broadcasting at nearly full power.

If you have been following the saga of WSNC's transmitter problems, you will be pleased to know we are operating on a rental transmitter which brings our signal up into the kilowatt range. Our broadcast signal is available to nearly all of our listening area.

The rental transmitter will be in place until we get the new permanent transmitter installed. Things are looking up.

Thank you for your patience with this process. We rely on listeners for our funding, and we work hard to make the most of every dollar donated.

Please Excuse Our Mess

Jul 19, 2017

Thank you for your patience with our recent technical problems at WSNC. What once looked like a simple fix has become more complicated.

We need a new transmitter. The quoted price is around $38,000. While this is not a ridiculously high amount, we are licensed to a state university so there are procedures in place for purchasing equipment which are great for preventing frivolous decisions but not so good for speed.

WSNC Reception Issues

Jun 30, 2017

Technical problems with the WSNC transmitter have caused reception issues for some listeners recently.

On Tuesday June 27th, 2017, a component of the WSNC transmitter broke around 6 A.M. We were unable to broadcast our normal signal for over a day until staff members were able to restore our signal. Due to the broken component, we are broadcasting at reduced power.

We typically broadcast at 10 thousand watts. Right now we are broadcasting at 30 watts. Listeners may experience some temporary reception problems on the outer edges of the WSNC listening area.
